Festival of opportunities for young people in CSOs – Work, learn, volunteer!

Event dates:

6.4.2022. – 08.04.2022.

Parallel exhibition: 06.04. – 10.04.

Main Location: Student Center, Savska cesta 25 Zagreb (cinema lobby, second floor – Tree of Knowledge conference room https://stabloznanja.com/ )

Study visit on 7.4.: Friends of the Earth Croatia, Frankopanska ulica 1

Organizers: Youth Initiative for Human Rights Croatia and University of Zagreb

Planned participants: at least 200 young people and students (in total at all events, panels and workshops, will be registered separately), at least 30 civil society organizations that will either present themselves or participate in conference and workshops.

YIHR Croatia is organizing a Festival of opportunities for young people in CSOs – Work, learn, volunteer!, which consists of a one-day conference and a series of workshops and interactive and networking events. The aim of the project is to increase the employability of young people who have completed social sciences and humanities and to connect them with civil society organizations that find it difficult to reach quality staff. The goal is also to promote associations as inclusive and attractive places for employment, places for an apprenticeship, and other types of volunteering for students and young NEETs and present them CSOs as a kind of ‘soft skills accelerators’ or places where young people can learn valuable skills and knowledge crucial for navigating the labor market. 

Additionally: the program will be attended by participants from other parts of Croatia and from abrogated

11.00 – 12.30 Panel discussion: Working in civil society: how much does working out of love cost us? (Tree of Knowledge room) (Hybrid event – live streaming on youtube with simultaneous translation to English)

Matea Marić (IKS) – presentation of good volunteering practice of youth centers

This panel discussion will be attended by representatives of civil society organizations, representatives of academia and relevant institutions as well as young people, and will discuss employment opportunities and career development in civil society

12:30 – 14:00 Networking event and lunch in the lobby of the SC (space in front of the cinema/&TD) 

The aim of this event is to connect civil society organizations and students and other participants and visitors of the conference. In addition to lunch, information points and posters of individual organizations can be organized in the lobby, where visitors can stay and talk, while adhering to epidemiological measures.

14:00 – 15:30 – How to make civil society organizations more inclusive? (Tree of Knowledge) – Discussion and presentation (Hybrid event – live streaming on zoom with simultaneous translation to English)

This event will present in an interactive way good practices related to inclusive volunteering and the inclusion of vulnerable groups of young people in the work and activities of associations. Volunteers and associations from Croatia will participate, as well as international volunteers and organizations from other countries. We would like to present 5 good practices of volunteering at this event:

Additional program – exhibition: “Peace activism of the nineties and today”

Background information

The exhibition “Peace Activism of the 1990s and Today” was designed by Branka Vierda and Nikica Torbica. Through photographs and statements by members of the Croatian Anti-War Campaign and activists born after the 1990s, the exhibition focuses on the meaning of peace and peace activism in the 1990s and 30 years later.
